Environmental testing

Environmental Services

We can test your home or workplace for pollutants. Radon, mold, lead paint, electromagnetic radiation and more. If you are worried your home is making you sick, you may want to consider testing.

Radon: Radon is cancer -causing radioactive gas that results from the decay of uranium. Radon is odorless, invisible, and deadly. The EPA estimates that about 21,000 Americans die of radon-caused lung cancer every year. The American Lung Association, the American Medical Association and the National Safety Council recommend testing your home for radon because testing is the ONLY way to know your home's radon levels. As an added note, elevated radon levels have been found in every state. Radon testing is easy and not expensive. If your home has a high radon level, there are ways to reduce it. Most radon problems can be fixed for under $1,000.

Mold: We are also trained to examine and test your home for mold. If you smell something 'musty' it could be making you sick. Roof leaks, leaky faucets, poor drainage and other causes can promote mold growth. Sensitivity to mold can range from allergies to severe reactions. If you suspect mold issues in your home, it should be addressed immediately.

Lead Paint: Durango has a lovely old downtown area. Many homes were built in the 1800's and commonly contain lead-based paint. If you are remodeling it is important to deal with lead-based paint properly to avoid lead poisoning. We are able to test your home for lead paint and point you in the right direction for it's proper removal.

Electromagnetic Radiation: A lesser known pollutant is electromagnetic radiation. There is an increasing level of sensitivity to electromagnetic radiation from power lines, cell towers, smart meters and more. Though research is just beginning into it's effect on health, we believe it best to follow a precuationary path and exert caution and limit exposure when possible. We are trained to test your home or workplace for electromagnetic levels and to provide advice on remediation.

Water and Soil: We are also able to provide testing services for water and soil quality.

When an activity raises threats of harm to the environment or human health, precautionary measures should be taken even if some cause and effect relationships are not fully established scientifically.
